Replacement of Residential 200 Amp (or Less) Electric Panel in Compliance with City Codes

This project involves the replacement of a residential electric panel rated at 200 amps or less. No formal plans are required for this work; however, all installation activities must fully comply with the City of Mesa electrical codes and the servicing electric utility’s requirements. Under no circumstances should utility wires or meters be disconnected by the contractor or homeowner, as unauthorized disconnection is strictly prohibited and may result in equipment damage or personal injury. Failure to properly schedule utility disconnection through the appropriate utility provider may lead to additional trip charges and fees for any damage caused to utility equipment. Prior to commencing work, it is mandatory to coordinate with the applicable utility provider—either SRP (Salt River Project) at 602-236-0777 or City of Mesa Electric Utility via engineering-electric@mesaaz.gov—to schedule a pre-construction meeting and obtain specific utility service requirements related to the permit. Disconnect and reconnect fees, as well as other utility-related charges, may be billed separately from permit fees. Depending on the utility provider, attendance at a pre-construction meeting may be required before scheduling any utility disconnect or reconnect. Strict adherence to these procedures is essential to avoid additional fees and ensure a safe, compliant installation.
