Replacement of Residential 200 Amp (or Less) Electric Panel with Utility Coordination

This project involves the replacement of a residential electric panel rated at 200 amps or less. No formal plans are required for this work. All installation activities must fully comply with the City of Mesa electrical codes as well as the servicing electric utility’s requirements. Under no circumstances shall utility wires or meters be disconnected by the contractor or homeowner; self-disconnection of utility equipment is strictly prohibited due to the risk of damage and injury. Failure to properly schedule utility disconnection with the applicable utility provider may result in additional trip charges and fees for any damages caused to utility equipment. Prior to commencing work, the contractor must coordinate directly with the relevant utility provider—either SRP (Salt River Project) at 602-236-0777 or City of Mesa Electric Utility via engineering@electricatmesaaz.gov—to schedule a pre-construction meeting and obtain all utility service requirements specific to the permit. Depending on the utility provider, this pre-construction meeting may be mandatory before scheduling any disconnect or reconnect operations. Disconnect/reconnect fees or other charges may be billed separately by the utility and are not included in permit fees. Strict adherence to these coordination and scheduling requirements is essential to avoid additional fees and ensure a safe, compliant installation.
