Washington State Ferries proposes to install electrical infrastructure to support the future operation of hybrid diesel-electric ferry vessels at the Seattle Terminal on Elliott Bay. The project scope includes the installation of electrical equipment on the uplands at Pier 48, connecting to existing Seattle City Light electrical feeders. Two submarine conduits will be installed underwater from the Pier 48 uplands to the Seattle Terminal pier to facilitate power transmission. The Seattle Terminal pier will receive new decking designed to support on-deck electrical equipment housed within new protective canopies. Two in-water Vessel Charging System (VCS) platforms will be constructed at Seattle Terminal slips 1 and 3 to accommodate hybrid vessels. Protective dolphins will be installed around the VCS platforms to provide structural protection. Additionally, two overwater catwalks will be built to allow safe maintenance access from the pier to the VCS platforms. The project also includes the removal of two existing floating concrete dolphins and timber debris from the seafloor to clear the site for new construction.
