Tree Removal and Vegetation Restoration Approval Request for Declining Cherry Tree

This project involves the removal of a very old and large cherry tree that has been in decline for many years. The tree originally had one main trunk with four large secondary trunks, each nearly a tree in itself. Historically healthy and productive, the tree has progressively deteriorated, requiring extensive pruning to remove dead branches. Currently, three main trunks remain: two on the north side are completely dead, and one on the south side is almost entirely dead and continues to decline. Despite ongoing efforts, including strategic pruning to stimulate new growth, a certified arborist has confirmed that the tree has no viable future.

For safety and logistical reasons, removal must be completed while at least two trunks remain structurally sound—one on the north side and one on the south side—to allow safe climbing and dismantling. If the tree deteriorates further and climbing is no longer feasible, removal would require the use of a crane, which poses significant challenges due to lack of alley access and site constraints, increasing cost and complexity. The tree’s condition presents an increasing hazard to neighboring properties and individuals nearby. This project requires approval for the safe removal of the tree followed by appropriate vegetation restoration to mitigate environmental impact and maintain site aesthetics.
