PG&E Underground Primary and Secondary Cable Installation with Trenching and Environmental Controls

Project details

This project involves the installation of underground primary and secondary electrical cables, including the placement of primary enclosures and replacement of splice boxes as per PG&E specifications. The scope includes trenching approximately 1,971 linear feet by 1 foot in width. Strict environmental controls must be implemented to prevent dust, debris, and wastewater from contaminating the surrounding environment throughout the excavation and installation process.

All work must comply with California state law Section 8771 when working within 15 feet of any monument; prior contact with the inspector is mandatory before starting excavation to avoid a minimum fine of $5,800 for non-compliance. Additionally, all activities must adhere to the City of Oakland Public Works Standards, Street Excavation Rules (revised August 2021), and City Council Ordinance No. 13300 C.M.S.

Notification requirements include providing at least five days’ prior notice for work lasting five days or less in business or commercial districts, 72 hours’ notice in residential districts, and ten days’ notice for work lasting six days or more in any district. Inspections must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance via the City of Oakland project portal (http://oaklanddot.com/projects/search.html). All safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements must be strictly followed to ensure compliance and successful project completion.
