This project involves the replacement of a residential electric panel rated at 200 amps or less. No formal plans are required for this work; however, all installation activities must fully comply with the City of Mesa electrical codes and the servicing electric utility’s requirements. Under no circumstances should utility wires or meters be disconnected by the contractor or homeowner, as unauthorized disconnection is strictly prohibited and may result in equipment damage or personal injury. Failure to properly schedule a utility disconnect through the appropriate channels may lead to additional utility trip charges and fees for any damage caused to utility equipment. Prior to commencing work, it is mandatory to coordinate with the applicable utility provider—either SRP (Salt River Project) at 602-236-0777 or City of Mesa Electric Utility via engineering@electricatmesaaz.gov—to schedule a pre-construction meeting and obtain all specific utility service requirements related to the permit. Disconnect and reconnect fees or other charges may be billed separately by the utility and are not included in permit fees. Depending on the utility provider, attendance at a pre-construction meeting may be mandatory before scheduling any disconnect or reconnect activities. Strict adherence to these requirements is essential to avoid additional fees and ensure a safe and compliant installation.
