Had a double door installed in December. The price was competitive for the product and installation went quickly. It was exactly what I wanted and looks great. There were a fer minor nicks in the paint and uncolored seams, but I was able to take care of that myself with the extra paint they provided. Before the job was started, they offered to match the new doors' paint with the color of the existing wood trim from the interior. They tore a piece of the trim off and took it with them. Days later, someone told me they couldn't match wood colors. That makes sense, but don't offer to match colors in the first place if it's not possible. They only stained three sides of the new interior wood trim and refused to do the fourth because, apparently, it's part of the threshold and that's adjustable. I don't care if the wood under the door is stained because that's only visible when the door is open. However, the inside trim needs done. I did it myself. The astragal, the metal bar between the doors, was stark white like a screen door and does not match the color of either the interior or exterior of the doors. I asked if other metals or color options were available and was told no and that is couldn't be painted. I contacted the manufacturer and found that it could, in fact, be painted. I painted the interior myself to match with a brush, but I know they could have done a better job in their shop in the first place.A few months later, I noticed that a piece of the exterior trim had come away from the wall. It was a simple matter of adding a new seam of caulking, but I could not get McVay to get back to me.If you go with McVay Brothers, expect a good product at a good price, but also expect to have some DIY work before everything is done.
High quality work, attention to detail and a very happy customer here. McVays did our roof, windows, insulation, doors and gutters. We purchased a 1908 home on the South Hill and it needed new everything. I am very picky and wanted to keep the charm of the home. Taking out the original wood windows was hard for me, they were a work of art, however the cold, drafty winters soon made me realize they had to go. Wow, the new casements McVays installed not only look great but we saved money our heating bill - no more drafts and the self cleaning glass (which I didn' t think would live up to it's name) really works, the windows sparkle and they upgraded the home both inside and out. The guys showed up on time and were friendly, left our place clean and did nice finish work. Our friends designer, Mara, works with them on her high end homes and McVays came highly recommended. We took her word for it, glad we did! Great products, install at the right price, thanks McVay Brothers!
I was promised to have the one window replacement I order done to match the existing windows in my house, the window came in the wrong size and instead of stopping or informing us they just kept going, cutting our siding, trashing our existing trim work etc, a two hour job turned into a five day job and having to replace the other window in the room to now match their goof-up, since they broke the original and couldn't return it. Worst of all I was stood up twice on scheduled install days, I was quoted 397.00 for the one window and received a bill for 697.00 plus tax for both windows and was told they were generous to give me 100.00 discount for 5 days of professional install work. The only contract or quote I received was the 397.00, and was verbally told they'd match the 2nd window for free....NOT.
